April 2012: Watta Bite News
I hope this letter finds you doing well. What a
short winter. It's hard to believe that the first week of March
looked like this!
Yes!
That's me! The first week of March brought in the storm of the
century. We received about 20 to 30 inches of heavy wet snow
knocking out power to 90% of Leelanau and Benzie counties.
A week
later record breaking temperatures in the 80’s brought an early
start to the fishing season. I’ve already been out doing some early
Lake Trout / White fish jigging.

Here’s
a little review
of last summer
We had some great Lake Trout
fishing. In May and June we had larger fish with good numbers.
My
wife Sue took over our little smoking fish venture. Those big Lake
Trout make a good smoked fish pate’.
The big Kings arrived in July. It was great to
see 20lb Salmon in the box again. These fish were downright feisty.
I get excited every time I hear those drags scream.
I boated my largest Brown Trout July 4th
while waiting for a late charter. It turned out to be a 19
lb. fish! The September fishing for young silver Kings was
fantastic. Good weather helped a bunch. These 3 to 14 lb. fish are a
tasty treat.

What will this year’s fishing be?
I know
the Lake Trout fishing will be fantastic. We have a good
number of trout waiting for us.
With the early spring I’m expecting the
Big King’s to show up early. I’ll be disappointed if they aren’t
here sometime in June. I can hardly wait!
Sue will be smoking fish again this summer for
those who have a couple extra days of vacation. It takes us 2 days
to smoke a batch. Smoked salmon is delicious any time during the
year. We always have it for family get-togethers.
Cindy added some music to last year’s pictures. I
personally like the long edition of the 2011 fishing season that we
posted on our Watta
Bite Charter Fishing Facebook account. Her talents always make the website an
exciting place to visit!
As soon as we start fishing, we will be
posting new pictures on the fish report. We have quite an archive of
catches over the years.
Enjoy
our new
video that we just posted on our site. Thank you for
making this video possible!
Hope to see you on the water.
Let’s go fishing!!
